Trego | On the Namekagon River

It’s been a long, fun ride here running the Trego website but I fear it’s getting toward closing time. I started this website back when the Internet was still cooling. At the time, websites were like dinosaurs — large, clumsy, slow and not to be encountered by the faint of heart.

I’ve had a great time these past years answering questions for fine folks who needed help with all things Trego. Most memorable: “left my camera on the roof of my car when we pulled out of the landing parking lot” to “can I walk to The Prime from the Town Park?”. The all-time most popular question pertained to the pronunciation of our oddly-named town. One Saturday morning I got a call from a couple who were clearly in the midst of a raging argument about that questionable E in the middle of TrEgo. I think the wife won, but we weren’t giving prizes at the time, so I guess her reward was just being right.

I always answered that Trego the Town preceded Prego the Spaghetti Sauce by some years, so we were sticking with the long EEEEEEEEEEeeeeeeeee.

The site will remain online until October. I hope y’all have enjoyed the site as much as I have. If you have comments, feel free to contact me at bee@trego.net

I love to hear from people and talk about Trego, but to learn about Town things, you should contact the town representatives. I don’t know how to reach the Trego Park campground either. 🙁 Sorry.

Trego is located in Northwest Wisconsin. It’s home to the Namekagon River and Trego Lake where you’ll find excellent fishing, camping, and canoeing. One of our favorite summertime activities is tubing the river. On warm summer days, rent a tube, catch a ride upstream and spend the afternoon floating the river with friends. Don’t forget the sunscreen!

The Namekagon River is a designated Wild and Scenic Riverway — one leg of the St. Croix National Scenic Riverway. Perfect for families or groups who want a quiet getaway on the order of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area. After your day of fishing, canoeing, tubing or wildlife watching, visit one of our local establishments for a cool refreshing drink and an ever-changing variety of delicious fare.
